Metabolic Solutions Diabetes is a metabolic disease that is caused by changes in metabolism that alter both the ability of insulin to work on its target tissues and the cells in the pancreas that make and secrete insulin. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 220 million people worldwide have diabetes, and 90 percent of those afflicted have type 2 diabetes.
